Thorough Foster-Parent Training
Learn to provide trauma-informed care through our TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention) program model. Perfect parents aren’t required, but with the proper training you can be confident in the skills you possess to be an awesome parent!
Continuous Support
Experience peace of mind while caring for your foster child, knowing a staff member is on-call 24/7 to address critical incidents that may occur.
Community Supports and Referrals
You are not in this alone. FH Peer groups offer an opportunity to learn and be encouraged by other parents who have faced the same joys and challenges of fostering. Additionally, be connected with community resources that will aid in the success of your parenting efforts.
Step 1
Contact our office to schedule an orientation to learn more about Functional Home, children awaiting homes, and fostering requirements.
Step 2
Begin Pre-Service Training. This is a 4-6 week period where each parent is vetted and trained according to DFPS and Functional Home standards. Throughout training, a Home Developer will work with you to make sure your home is foster child and licensing ready.
Step 3
Functional Home will receive a referral for a child and or a sibling group needing a foster placement. Based on the foster parents’ level of experience and expressed preferences, FH will find the most suitable foster-home for the child and their needs. As a foster parent, you will receive a call from a FH intake coordinator inquiring if you are interested and willing to take the child or sibling group in. Should you accept placement, be ready to welcome your new child within 24-72 hours in most cases!
